Police in Jigawa State have confirmed that nine people have been killed while four others were injured in a communal clash in the state.
The clash which was as a result of alleged hibiscus theft and other provisions by thieves suspected to be Fulani from Yankunama village in Jahun local government area of the state.
Confirming the incident, Shiisu Lawan Adam, the Jigawa State Police Command’s spokesman said some people from Gululu village in Miga LGA set out to Yankunama village to recover the theft of their items.
However, upon reaching village, some people started shooting them with bows and arrows, leading to serious injuries on four persons.
According to him, the villagers from Gululu mobilized themselves and started attacking Fulani and setting their houses ablaze at various locations within Miga and Jahun LGAs.
“A team of villagers (Hausawa) traced footprints of thieves to a Fulani Settlement Camp in Yankunama village, Jahun LGA.
“On sighting the team, the Fulanis started shooting the villagers with bow and arrows, as a result, four (4) persons were seriously injured”.
“Hence the villagers mobilized and started attacking the Fulanis and setting their houses ablaze at various locations within Miga and Jahun LGAs”, said Adam.
He confirmed that nine persons were dead, 4 others injured, adding that normalcy has been restored in the two communities as police operatives have been stationed in the areas.
“A stakeholder meeting was immediately convened, attended by the Jigawa State Speaker, chairmen of the two LGAs, district heads, Miyetti Allah leadership, and vigilantes”, he added.
