The Kwara State Police Command has detained its two officers for allegedly torturing an asthmatic student of Kwara State University to death.
Suleiman Olayinka, a 27-year-old student at the university was allegedly beaten to coma by police officers on Friday, along Tanke Bridge in Ilorin, the state capital.
Confirming the incident, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kwara said the officers involved have been arrested and detained for their alleged involvement in the student murder.
WikkiTimes learnt that Olayinka, was dragged to the ground by police officers from Ganmo Division when he got off a motorcycle to collect money from his POS operator friend and was brutalised despite his plea that he was asthmatic.
Sahara Reporters quoted eyewitnesses confirming that the victim who never quarreled with anyone within the area has been pleading with the officers to tell him his offense. Instead, they kept beating him and threatened anyone who dared to stop them.
However, in a tweet, Eijire said the victim was accosted by the police officers following a report of cheating and criminal breach of trust against him.
“The Kwara State Police Command is aware of this unfortunate incident which led to the sudden death of Suleiman Olayinka (M) 27yrs”.
“A complaint of cheating and criminal breach of trust was reported against the deceased. Police detectives were immediately detailed to investigate the case”, said Ejire.
Recall that police authorities in the state have recently dismissed 3 officers, Inspector Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Emmanuel, and Sergeant Oni Philip identified in the brutal killing of Kwara State Polytechnic student, Qoyum Abdulyekeen.
