REC identifies dialogue as factor for peaceful co-existence

Alhaji Garba Attairu-Madami, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kwara, has identified dialogue as a solution to ending the crisis among communities in the country.

Attairu-Madami made the observation in llorin on Friday at a sensitisation programme on ‘Building People of Peace’ organised by the National Orientation Agency (NOA).

According to the REC, the misunderstanding among various ethnic groups often metamorphose into violence due to lack of dialogue.

He stressed the need to embrace dialogue as a way of ensuring peace, unity, love and progress among Nigerians.

The REC expressed worry over the recent violence in some parts of the country and called on the Federal Government to enter into dialogue with the aggrieved parties with a view to ending the crisis.

Attairu-Madami said no nation could make progress in an atmosphere of chaos and acrimony.

The REC, however, commended the people of the state for comporting themselves in a peaceful manner before, during and after the general elections.

Mr Olusegun Adeyemi, the state Director of NOA, reaffirmed the determination of the agency to continue to embark on programmes that would sustain peaceful co-existence among the people of the state.

Adeyemi urged traditional rulers as well as religious leaders in the state to ensure the sustenance of peace and harmony in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the sensation programme was attended by leaders of various ethnic groups in all the 16 Local government Areas of the state.
