Reps member condemns Jos attacks, counter attacks

A member representing Bassa/Jos North in the house of representatives, Hon. Haruna Maitala Jingre has condemned attacks and counter attacks witnessed within his constituency.

A press release obtained from the Director of Media and publicity to the house of representatives member, Mu’awiya Shuaibu said that the lawmaker made the condemnation on Friday when he paid a condolence visit to the paramount ruler of Irigwe chiefdom Rtd. Rev. Ronku Aka, at his palace.

Shuaibu said his principal was deeply saddened with the chaotic development in his constituency.

“It is very saddening that Fulani and Iregwe people who have peacefully coexisted for decades are now having disputes leading to killings and destruction of properties worth millions of Naira. What is happening is very worrisome”, He said.

The lawmaker condemned in totality, the attacks and counter attacks that remain persistent in the area, calling for a restrain and an end to the bloodbath.

“Sir, I identify with you at this trying moment and I equally sympathize with you and the people of Irigwe chiefdom over the incessant unrest, what happened should be seen as an act of God”, Hon. Maitala said.

He called on the people of the area to embrace the path of peaceful coexistence and shun anything that might trigger violence.

“My principal is worried and concerned over the killings and has assured the traditional ruler that he will continue to do his best in brokering peace to ensure that it is restored and maintained in the area”, he informed.

He said: “Very soon we will present some relief materials to the affected victims and our prayer is that, may God heal the injured and anyone affected in one way or the other.”

In his remark, the traditional ruler, Rtd. Rev. Ronku Aka, expressed regrets and concern that his people are being killed on daily basis even when peace meeting were severally held.

“I am happy that you have come to commiserate with us. Before now, I was not happy because I thought we are left alone,” he said.

The monarch urged government to formulate a comprehensive system of crops and livestock farming that will do away with farmer/herder conflicts completely.

“Despite the problems encountered, I’m is still hopeful that the continuing dialogue will lead to peaceful resolution of the dispute”, the statement reads.
