Residents Ran for Dear Life as Bandits Attacked Zurmi Town

In a brazen attack on Tuesday evening, bandits stormed Zurmi town, the nerve center of Zamfara State’s Zurmi Local Government Area.

The onslaught unfolded at approximately 5 pm, with gunfire echoing through the air.

Eyewitness Babangida Mohammed, a Zurmi native, described a scene of panic as hundreds of residents fled into the bush, while others secured their homes to evade the threat of death or abduction by the marauding bandits.

Despite the gravity of the situation, Mohammed reported that the military response fell drastically short, leaving the town vulnerable.

“We are in a pathetic situation because the military personnel sent to fight the bandits are not enough,” Mohammed lamented. “We are calling on the security agencies to please do something before the worst happens.”

The sheer numbers of the bandits, according to Mohammed, emboldened them, rendering the deployed military forces insufficient to instill fear. The bandits, undeterred, continued their occupation of the town, firing indiscriminately as soldiers pursued them.

Despite attempts to seek information from the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar, these efforts proved futile, as he remained unreachable by telephone.
