Rigasa Community In Kaduna State Tasks Government On Major Road

Rigasa people in Kaduna State on Saturday appealed to the state government to rehabilitate Lokoja Road in the community to end recurring auto crashes.

Rigasa is a ward in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, one of the largest wards in terms of population.

Members of the community made the appeal in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Lokoja Road links Rigasa with neighbouring communities of Hayin Dan-Mani, Mahuta and Mando.

Salisu Muhammad, a commercial tricycle rider, said the road had been in a deplorable state for long and was always a nightmare anytime it rained.

“Accidents occur repeatedly on this road, especially during the rains. A commercial motorcyclist once fell on the road with his pregnant passenger while trying to cross the bridge.

“This is pathetic and we need government’s intervention.

“We commend the government for making the Rigasa main road a dual-carriage way, the rehabilitation of schools and provision of a primary healthcare centre.

“We pray this message of rehabilitating Lokoja Road gets to government,’’ he said.

A resident of Rigasa, Malam Shehu Muhammad, said children stayed away from school anytime there was a downpour.

According to him, Lokoja Road is the most used road in the community and needed urgent attention so that children of the community could go to school without stress.

On her part, Fatima Musa, a businesswoman, also commended the state government for the facelift Rigasa community got, but asked for more,

“We won’t get tired of appealing to government to attend to our problems as a community. We are appealing to government to come to our aid and rehabilitate this road,’’ she said.

Similarly, Dauda Haladu, a businessman, said the lack of drainage led to erosion on the road just as the bridge on the road needed attention.

He appealed to the local government council to do the needful and come to the rescue of the residents. (NAN)
