Scores Feared Killed, Houses Burnt in Renewed Mangu Conflict

Many were feared killed with residential houses and worship Centers burnt in Sabon-Gari, a suburb of Mangu metropolis, Mangu local government area of Plateau State following a fresh wave of violence.

WikkiTimes reports that over 150 persons were reportedly killed in the Christmas Eve conflict that erupted in the villages of Mangu local government.

A resident of Sabon-Gari who does not want to appear in print said the number of casualties cannot be determined for now.

“I cannot give you the exact number of people killed but many were killed, “More than 15 houses were burnt as well as several shops destroyed,” he narrated.

WikkiTimes gathered that parts of Mangu metropolis were also affected by the conflict with churches and mosques burnt by restive youth from both sides of the divide.

Police in Plateau have called for calm, saying their men are doing everything possible to contain the situation.

Similarly, the Media Officer of the Special Task Force in charge of security in Plateau, Bauchi and some of Southern Kaduna code-named Operation Save Haven OPSH Captain James Oya also confirmed the attack but declined to give casualties figures.

To him, troops of OPSH have been deployed to the affected area to bring the situation under control. He added that normalcy has returned to the affected area.

Earlier, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang declared a 24-hour curfew on Mangu Local Government Area of the state with immediate effect, following the deteriorating security situation in the area.
