Sokoto to Commence Formal Sector Deduction to Improve Healthcare

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has announced plans to initiate formal sector deductions to support the state’s Contributory Healthcare Programme, to enhance healthcare accessibility for public servants and their families.

News Agency of Nigeria reports that the announcement came during the closing ceremony of the USAID Integrated Health Programme (IHP) in Sokoto on Friday.

The governor, represented by Alhaji Bello Sifawa, Secretary to the State Government, said all necessary arrangements, including approval from the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), have been secured to start deductions from civil servants’ salaries.

Governor Aliyu also disclosed ongoing efforts to secure equity funds by year’s end to benefit state retirees and pensioners, further broadening the programme’s coverage.

The governor expressed gratitude for the collaborative endeavours of various stakeholders and development partners in bolstering the state’s health sector.

Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, the Commissioner for Health, highlighted the crucial role of development partners in improving Sokoto’s healthcare services and pledged continued support from her ministry and related agencies to facilitate their work.
