Furera Abubakar, a 24-year-old stepmother in Bantu village, Ningi local government area of Bauchi State, allegedly murdered her co-wife’s baby.
Spokesperson for Bauchi Police Command, Ahmed Mohammed Wakil disclosed this to reporters in a statement, saying the baby was born on August 15 and was murdered four days after.
He said an investigation revealed that the suspect entered the co-wife’s room with insecticide liquid (Gramalin) and applied it to the unhealed umbilical cord of the baby.
The liquid, which was suspected to have a corrosive effect, led to the deterioration of the baby’s health and he eventually died.
Wakil said further investigation is discreetly ongoing, after which the suspect will be profiled and charged in court accordingly.
