Tafawa Balewa LG Uncovers Charcoal Factory

Forestry Officers in Tafawa Balewa local government area of Bauchi state have uncovered a charcoal processing factory in Gori community of the local government.

The forestry officers of the local government in a patrol operation around the Gori forest uncovered a hip of wood deposited for charcoal and timber production.

WikkiTimes gathered that already, the suspects have been taken to court in a move by the officials of Tafawa Balewa local government to deter others and protect the forest resources of the local government from the activities of charcoal and timber producers.

Reacting to the development, Tafawa Balewa local government Chairman, Mr Daniel Danjuma Mazadu warned that anybody found wanting for destroying the forest resources of the local government will not be spared.

Section 5 (1) of the Bauchi State Forestry Law prohibits the felling down of trees for timber and charcoal in the state.

In 2020, Bauchi State Government confiscated three trucks loaded with charcoal. The trucks were arrested while passing through the state capital. It was alleged that the charcoal was sourced from one of the 20 local governments of the state.
