UPDATED: Akpabio, Abbas Now Leaders of National Assembly

Senator Godswill Akpabio has been elected as the 10th Senate President of the National Assembly.

The former minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Akpabio, scored 63 votes, while his main challenger, the former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, got 46. 

Akpabio is a lawyer and also a former governor of Akwa Ibom State. 

The margin between the duo who are both members of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) is 17 votes.

Senator Akpabio is the preferred choice of President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC for the 10th Senate President.

MEANWHILE, Tajudeen Abbas, a member representing Zaria Federal Constituency in Kaduna State has emerged as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

He defeated Ahmed Idris Wase, the former Deputy Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, and Aminu Sani Jaji.

Tajudeen Abbas is the preferred candidate for APC. However, the nomination of Abbas by the APC faced opposition from several lawmakers, including Idris Wase.
