War on Drugs: Bauchi NDLEA Tasks Residents On Intelligence Information

Driven by the quest to control drug crimes, the Bauchi State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Segun Oke has implored residents Bauchi metropolis to help with useful information that will enable the agency to confront illicit use and abuse of drugs.
Speaking exclusively to WikkiTimes, representative of the Commander Umele Mary said,

“Drug war is a cumbersome fight and we need information to win this war; please always feel free to come to our office and give us information, then leave us to act on it”.

The NDLEA spokesperson highlighted some prevalent illicit drugs in the state to include: “Psychotropic substances like tablets, injectables, tramadol tablets, capsules, cough syrups with codeine among others”.

“What I noticed here in this State is that this cough syrup is bought and poured into a bottle of coke or lacasera, such that you will think it is mere soft drinks,

” When you go out at night, you are likely to see youths moving about with such bottles in their hand without one noticing that it is something else”, he added.

The Command insisted that they are poised at adopting various approaches to reducing the drug crime rate in the state especially in staging prevention campaigns to catch them young.

To avoid stigma for drug dependents, he explained that counseling is conducted for both the person and his or her family,

“This is to enable the Family realises that this thing is actually a sickness and such person will get well without any post disorder when rehabilitation and treatment is done, hence give all needed support”, Oke said.

The NDLEA Commander maintained that despite their strategy of patrol, arrest, and campaigns against drug crimes in Bauchi, better results can be achieved when the Command is fed with relevant information by the residents.
