Women’s Day: Bauchi Gov’s Wife Asks Women To Be Self-Reliant

Hajiya Mariam Bala Abdulkadir, Wife of the Bauchi State Governor, has advised women to engage in rewarding productive ventures to enable them to stand on their own.

Hajiya Mariam Bala Abdulkadir stated this on Sunday to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day stressing that the current economic realities occasioned by the devastating effects of COVID-19 necessitate women to lower their sights to spot ways they can exploit to fend for themselves.

She said that women are important pillars capable of engendering national economic growth and development by creating opportunities hitherto neglected in the past.

She added that the present administration of Governor Bala Abdulkadir having realized the place of women in the society rolled out several empowerment schemes to support women with startup capitals from the meager resources at its disposal.

“The Government of His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has supported women with various skills acquisition programs in tailoring, sewing, and production of ornamentals in his effort to empower them to stand on their own.

“At the end of the training, we empowered women with startup capitals to enable them to make the best use of the training they received and give their quota to Governor Bala-led administration’s task of remaking Bauchi State,” Hajiya Mariam said.

She said with the right attitude, mindset, and determination, Bauchi women can succeed even where hopes peg low saying ‘you can shine bright like the sun.’

She advised women not to shy from taking up leadership roles because today’s challenges facing the world need active women’s participation in politics and the economy.

International Women’s Day is being observed on the 8th of March since 1975 and the theme for this year’s event is ‘Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.’
