16 Lives Lost, 27 Injured in Kaduna-Abuja Expressway Crash

In a devastating incident on the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway, 16 lives were cut short and 27 individuals left injured following a fatal road crash.

The calamity unfolded at Audu Jhangon village along the expressway at approximately 5:20 am on a fateful Sunday.

The ill-fated event involved a DAF truck, bearing the number plate KUJ 430XC, laden with overloaded goods.

Tragically, the vehicle lost control, hurtling into a ditch. Preliminary findings suggest that the driver’s high speed, possibly induced by fatigue, contributed to the catastrophe.

The combined efforts of the RS1.114 Zhipe Unit Command and RS1.16B Dutse Outpost swiftly undertook rescue operations, grappling with the aftermath of a crash that involved 65 people. Of these, 27 suffered injuries, while 16 lost their lives.

The injured have been rushed to the nearest hospital for urgent medical attention.

Upon receiving news of the tragedy, Sector Commander Mr. Kabir Nadabo personally visited the scene. He gathered firsthand information and directed the rescue team in evacuating the deceased to the morgue.

“Initial reports indicate the driver was at high speed, probably due to fatigue. The combined rescue teams of RS1.114 Zhipe Unit Command and RS1.16B Dutse Outpost conducted the rescue operations. The crash involved 65 people, where 27 were injured and 16 people were deceased. The injured have been taken to the nearest hospital for treatment,” he said.

Additionally, Nadabo ensured the prompt removal of wreckage obstructing the road, assuring the public that the road is now open for movement.

As investigations continue into this heart-wrenching incident, the community mourns the lives lost, highlighting the urgent need for road safety measures to prevent such tragedies on our highways.
