67-year-old Kaduna Man Locked in Isolated Room Regains Freedom 20 Years After

Sixty-seven years old Ibrahim Ado, a resident of Kaduna State had spent the last 20 years in an isolated room where he was incarcerated for unknown reasons.

The sexagenarian would see a ray of light again on October 12, 2022, when Kaduna State environmental health workers who were on official inspection found him naked in incarceration along Bayajidda Road.

One of the workers who craved anonymity told Nigerian Tribune that the stench oozing out from the room where he was kept captured their attention.

The health worker said: “Today we came to this house in search of beverages that were usually kept in residential houses without proper storage facilities when we saw a naked man locked up in a room.

“We found that he was in an uncomfortable position. The odour coming out from the room was unbearable. Later, we broke the room and brought him out. He was behaving like an animal.

“It was then we learnt that he was kept in the room for twenty years. We also found out he was fed in the room. He urinates and passes his faeces in the same room.”

Also, the Kaduna State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying residents of the house fled upon arrival of the police team at the scene. 

According to the command’s spokesperson, Mohammed Jalige, “the health officers reported to the Magajin Gari Police Division, and the commissioner of police directed personnel to evacuate the victim.”

“He also directed a full-scale investigation of the matter to unravel the circumstances surrounding the issue and why the man was kept in isolation for this long,” he added.

In addition, the police also confirmed that the victim had been taken to the hospital for a medical check-up.
