Adamawa Assembly approves guidelines for the operation of LGAs

The Adamawa House of Assembly has approved 37 guidelines for the operations of newly appointed Transitional Committees for the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

The house at Tuesday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Aminu Iya-Abbas also approved 13 guidelines for the operations of Administrators of 50 Development Areas of the state.

The guidelines approval followed a request by Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri in an executive letter to the house.

Parts of the guidelines which placed Chairman and Vice Chairman of LGAs on N250,000 and N200,000 monthly salary respectively said chairman can only approve N250,000 expenditure and that any thing above that should be referred to council for consideration.

The guidelines also limited the spending of the transition committee to N1 million only, while anything above that must be referred to the Ministry for Local Government for clearance.

It also said that a chairman must obtain clearance from the ministry before traveling and should concentrate on revenue generation for his services.

For Development Area Administrators, the guidelines put them on N200,000 monthly salaries and were assigned to concentrate on monitoring and maintenance of rural infrastructure such as schools, roads, water points and other utilities within their areas of jurisdiction.

They were also to coordinate security in their areas and report to LGA chairmen. (NAN)
