The Adamawa State Police Command says it has arrested one Auwal Abdullahi, a 19-year-old tricyclist, for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in a hotel around Nasarawa Borehole area of Jimeta, Yola North LGA.
He was said to have left the victim in the hotel room for some of his friends to also rape her.
Auwal, a tricycle operator, who hails from Nasarawa Borehole, however, denied the allegation during police interrogation, insisting that the lady was his girlfriend.
He said his affair with the girl was consensual, adding he had been dating the victim for over six months.
“On the day of the incident, after spending time with her, I asked her to return home but she refused and said she will not go back home; instead, she will be going somewhere else.
“So, I left her in the hotel the following morning because she told me that she wouldn’t go out until 11am. I was informed that she was chased out of the hotel and gang raped by some hoodlums,” the suspect said.
Spokesman for Adamawa Police Command, Suleiman Nguroje, said the Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babatola, had expressed concern over the incident and vowed to ensure the prosecution of the suspect.
