Alumni Give N2.5m Tools to Alma Mater in Katsina

The old students of Government Day Secondary School Kofar-Yandaka, Katsina State, set of 1983, have given assorted tools worth about N2.5 million to their alma mater.

The chairman of Class of ’83 Old Boys Association, Alhaji Ali Aliyu-Saulawa, during the event in Katsina, said the gesture was part of their celebration for the 40th anniversary of graduation.

The old students also honoured some of their former teachers as well as four of their mates for dedication and commitment to the development of education and the state as a whole.

Aliyu-Saulawa explained, “In keeping with the spirit of giving back to our alma mater, the 1983 set of old students will proudly present teaching tools to the current school authorities.

“The teaching tools include 40 three-seater chairs and tables, textbooks, white board with markers and dusters.

“We hope that these resources will enhance learning for the current students and contribute to the continued success of the school, and their studies respectively. So as to provide a conducive and friendly atmosphere for learning as the knowledge gained and the experiences shared played a significant role in shaping who we are today,” he said.

According to him, their collective efforts and dedication to the pursuit of excellence were as a result of the commitment and dedication of their teachers who were responsible for their success.

“As we come together to commemorate this important milestone, it is my privilege to announce that our celebration is a time for us to reconnect, reunite and acknowledge the achievements and successes that have transpired since our days in school,” he said.

One of the old students who received the award, Dr Muttaqa Rabe-Darma commended the association and pledgd their commitment towards improving the education sector in the state.

Speaking at the event, the Principal of the school during their time, Alhaji Haruna Dalhatu said in 1983, the set had the best results in WAEC examination, saying, ”i am therefore proud of them.”

According to him, during their time, they were always ahead in everything, especially academic, sporting and other activities in the school.

Receiving the donation, the present principal of the Junior section of the school, Alhaji Ibrahim Kofar-Soro, commended the gesture and promised to use the tools judiciously.
