Bandits Destroy Mast, After Failed Kidnap Attempt in Zamfara

Heavily armed gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed four people and abducted an unspecified number of people in Zurmi local government area of Zamfara state after a failed attempt to abduct the local traditional ruler. The bandits were said to have started shooting at the gate of the emir of Zurmi but were not successful, thus venting their anger on the nearby telephone masts belonging to MTN, before whisking away with unspecified number of people including family members of the emir.

“Yesterday night around 10pm bandits invaded Zurmi town and opened fire on the resident of Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi but they couldn’t filter through because the gate is bullet proof. They just burnt MTN tower close to the emir’s palace”, said a resident of the area.

After attacking Zurmi town, the waylaying gunmen again attacked Dauran Community and abducted four people after disguising as women but were later repelled by combined team of security personnel from army, police and Askarawan Zamfara guards.

WikkiTimes recalled that Zurmi town and it’s communities have been under constant attacks by bandits who normally retreat to surrounding forests and hills after carrying out their heinous acts.

Efforts to reach Yazid Abubakar, Zamfara State Police Command’s spokesperson were not successful as all his mobile numbers were not going as at press time and SMS sent to him has not been delivered.
