Protesters Storm APC National Secretariat, Demand Ganduje’s Resignation

Some aggrieved members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) from the North Central region, led by Mohammed Mahmud Saba, on Thursday converged on the party’s national secretariat demanding the resignation of the party’s national chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

This is despite the Kano State High Court’s reversal of Ganduje’s suspension, pressure still mounts for his exit from the national chairman position of the ruling party.

The protesters, representing Concerned North Central APC Stakeholders, called on George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and a North Central native, to ensure the return of the APC chairmanship to their region.

Carrying placards with slogans like “Ganduje must resign” and “Return APC chairmanship to North Central,” the protesters argued that the appointment of Ganduje, hailing from the North West, disregarded the party’s zoning arrangement.

They rejected the vote of confidence recently passed on Ganduje by the Forum of State Chairmen, insisting on the reinstatement of the North Central leader, Mohammed Mahmud Saba, as the party’s national chairman, citing constitutional breaches and a sense of betrayal.

“We demand Ganduje’s immediate resignation and adherence to the zoning arrangements agreed upon in the 2022 National Convention,” declared Saba. “Our region deserves representation at the highest level of the party, and we will not rest until our mandate is restored.”

The protesters urged APC governors from the North Central to mobilize against what they termed as impunity, emphasizing their determination to reclaim their ‘rightful position’ within the party hierarchy.
