Baobab Contains More Calcium, Potassium Than Banana and Milk – Expert

The baobab tree, often referred to as the “tree of life,” is a remarkable plant known for its availability and affordability coupled with its numerous uses in Northern Nigeria.

Dr. Zarah Umar, a medical expert in an interview with BBC Hausa said Baobab fruits, leaves, seeds and oil offer a wealth of nutritional and medicinal benefits that contribute to the general well-being of human beings.

To her, Baobab is a treasure trove of resources, with its fruits, leaves, and oil being utilized for various purposes.

In northern Nigeria especially, baobab leaves are commonly used to prepare delicacies, including Miyan kuka.

Additionally, the leaves can be incorporated into salads, adding both flavour and nutritional value. Baobab fruits are also highly sought after, as they are used to create candies and enrich smoothies.

Its potassium content is four times higher than that of a banana, assisting in regulating water balance in the body and maintaining healthy blood pressure levels. Zinc, another important mineral found in baobab, aids in wound healing and boosts immunity.
