Bauchi APC Claims Chair Voted Against Gov’ship Candidate, Wants Him Removed

Babayo Misau, Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi has been accused of anti-party activities including voting against Sadique Baba Abubakar, the party’s governorship candidate for the just-concluded March 18 polls.

Some chieftains in the party under the aegis of Bauchi State APC Patriotic Support Group made the allegations and called for his immediate resignation, TheGuardian reports.

“Most disturbing is the nonchalant and lack of capacity of our state Chairman, who, on his own volition, abandoned his responsibility just to satisfy his paymaster,” said Almustapha Zubairu, the group’s leader.

“This is totally undemocratic and the height of betrayal of trust. We call on him to honourably resign as the chairman of our party in the interest of justice, and for the rebuilding process of our party to succeed.

“We do not wish to dwell on numerous anti-party activities that have been levelled against him, including financial recklessness, which is already in the public domain.

“Worst still, he decided to openly display his ballot paper without voting for the governorship candidate of his party. To say the least, this is the height of betrayal of trust. The truth of the matter is that he has eroded the trust, confidence and loyalty of members of the party; hence, the call for his immediate resignation,” he continued.

Zubairu urged the national leadership of the party, the president-elect and vice president-elect to be aware of the Bauchi situation.

But the chairman seems to be worried about the allegations.

Misau who spoke with TheGuardian in a phone interview said he was not bothered about the allegations.

He clearly stated that he would not resign as demanded by the chieftains, adding they did not elect him to office.

“I will not resign. Are they the ones who voted me in? I don’t want a long argument, please! Forget about them,” he said. “I will not resign. Are they the ones who voted me in? I don’t want a long argument, please! Forget about them.”

While advising the party to take him to court, Misau noted that as a party chairman, he’s not answerable to the party’s governorship candidate.

He said: “I’m not his (Sadique) servant. I’m the Chairman; I have my duties. I’m not supposed to tell them what I am doing. Let them do whatever they think they can do, if they can.”
