Bauchi Assembly divided over motion for the construction of road in Bogoro

Members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly were sharply divided over a motion requesting the executive to construct Lusa-Tadnum road in Bogoro local government area of the state.

In a motion by Hon. Musa Wakili Nakwada member representing Bogoro constituency during house plenary presided over by the Speaker, Abubakar Y. Suleiman, the lawmaker called for the construction of Lusa-Mbal-Sur-Banram- Tadnum road in Bogoro LGA.

Nakwada explained that, “the road is in dilapidated condition”, making it difficult for commuters to freely use the road.

The lawmaker said the economic and social development of the area is being disrupted courtesy of the terrible condition of the road, which he says greatly affect the people of the area in terms of “access to market, schools, hospitals and farmlands.”

Contributing on the floor of the house, the Deputy Speaker, Honourable Danlami Ahmed Kawule opined that the motion be approved and referred to the executive for implementation.

But Honourable Bello Mu’azu Shira opposed the motion, arguing that his local government (Shira LGA) was more bedeviled by lack of government presence.

He said instead of favouring one LGA at the detriment of others, the house should prevail over the executive to construct roads in all the 20 local governments.

Corroborating Hon. Shira, Majority Leader of the Assembly, Honourable Tijjani Aliyu observed that the motion moved by Nakwada is “personal.”

Another lawmaker, Honourable Saleh Hodi Jibir who also argued against Hon. Nakwada, reminded the house that he had moved a motion for road construction that will cut across two constituencies in Shira local government, but nothing was done about.

After debate and counter debates, the house played its veto power by adopting the prayers of the motion.
