Bauchi Community Seeks Reconnection to National Grid

Following a prolonged period of darkness, residents of Yakubun Bauchi Quarters, a street in Bauchi metropolis, have asked the state government and Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) to restore power supply to the community.

WikkiTimes gathered that the area was cut off from the National Grid after a transformer failure which, naturally, defies local community efforts to fix it.

Also, the problem crippled small businesses distorting livelihoods and making life unbearable to most residents in the light of increasing heat waves during this period.

A resident of the area who was also a former Programme Manager of the Bauchi State Agricultural Development Programme (BSADP), Dr Iliyasu Aliyu Gital said they need a transformer to address the problem.

He said while the state government constructed a township road in the area recently, there is also the need for the government to once again salvage residents with a transformer to enable households in the area to access power supply which eluded them for quite some time now.

Similarly, Ward Head of Yakubun Bauchi Quarters, Abdullahi Yusuf Limanci said the community had made several attempts to fix the transformer but without success.

He commended the maturity exhibited by residents throughout the blackout days, urging them to continue in that direction.

Responding, Commissioner of Power, Science and Technology, Modibbo Abdulkadir Ahmad promised to forward the complaints of the residents to the Governor to enable him to do the needful.
