Bauchi first lady inducted as global hepatitis zero ambassador

The wife of the Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed,  Dr Aishatu Bala Mohammed, has been inducted as a “Global Hepatitis Zero Ambassador” by the Hepatitis Zero Nigerian Commission.

The ceremony took place in her office in Bauchi, which she hosted the Hepatitis Zero Nigerian Commission team, led by the president, Dr. Mike Omotosho.

The event was part of the efforts to eradicate hepatitis in the state.

This was followed by the free screening and vaccination of the residents for both Hepatitis B and C, where 500 people took part.

In his address, Omotosho explained the urgency in dealing with this silent killer, which he said, claims almost 4,000 people daily across the globe. He compared the death toll to those caused by the coronavirus which is above 2,000 since its discovery in December last year.

Mrs Mohammed, in her response, pledged her support for the fight against the disease as she had done in the past by providing treatment for people living with Hepatitis B.

The occasion was graced by her husband and governor of the state, Alhaji Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the deputy governor, the commissioner for health, the commissioner for Women Affairs, heads of parastatals, chief medical directors (CMDs) and members of the state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association.
