Bauchi state government has earmarked the sum of N500 million to procure motor vehicles for distribution to commercial drivers on loan bases to ease transportation in the state and further empower the beneficiaries.
Governor Bala Mohammed of the state who made this known on Wednesday while flagging off the distribution of 1000 units of tricycles in the state capital said that the vehicles to be purchased would be brands of vectra and Sharon cars.
He said that the project when actualised will further create alternative transportation for the citizens and boost the economy of the state.
The project according to Governor Bala is through ‘Kaura Economic Empowerment Programme (KEEP).
“Plans are underway to procure and distribute motor vehicles at a hired purchase”, Bala said.
The governor pointed out that, “asides that, plans are also underway to provide cluster loans to traders in the state where the government intends to invest 500 million Naira in conjunction with Bank of Industry.
“The sum of 250 million naira has been set aside for that purpose as counterpart funding,” the governor explained.
Bala noted that a marching fund amounting to 250 million naira has been paid and is waiting to be implemented through a memorandum of understanding which will kick-start the project and make it bankable.
