Bauchi State government has on Saturday distributed 50 JAC pick up vehicles it procured to security agencies, which it says will help bolster the fight against insecurity in the State.
Distributing the vehicles, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the state said the exercise was in fulfillment of his administration’s cardinal principle of ensuring the safety of lives and property of the people of the State which he described as the major pre-occupation of government.
Governor Mohammed who expressed worry over the rising forms of insecurity in Nigeria says the state government under his watch takes the issue of security seriously, adding that concerted efforts would be put in place to arrest the situation.
Bala Mohammed said the distributed vehicles were equipped with communication gadgets with the capacity to access all parts of the State, which he argued, will help curb the increasing number of criminal activities in Bauchi.
The Governor appreciated the commitment of security agencies in the maintenance of peace and order, assuring that his administration will continue to compliment the federal government to rid the country of criminal elements.
Also speaking, the Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali, represented by the Assistant Inspector General, Federal Operations, Mr Johnson Babatunde Kokumo expressed gratitude to Governor Bala for the gesture.
Mr. Johnson described the gesture as timely, which he says will help in enhancing operations of the security agencies in Bauchi.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mohammed Sabiu Baba , and the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Marcus Yake appreciated the foresight of the Governor for providing the security agencies with the patrol vehicles.
Among the 50 procured vehicles, the Nigerian Police Force got the lion share, where 17 vehicles were allocated to the force, while the Nigerian Army and Nigerian and the Bauchi State Road Transport Agency, BAROTA got 4 vehicles each.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Department of State Security DSS got two vehicles each, while the Nigerian Air Force got one vehicle.
Other agencies that benefited from the donations include, Bauchi Peace and Security Committee, Committee on Violence Against Women, Hisbah, Bauchi State Command, Bauchi State Liaison Office, Abuja among others.
The occasion had in attendance, the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt Honorable Abubakar Y Suleiman and his Deputy, Dallami Ahmed Kawule, State Chairman of PDP, Hamza Koshe Akuyam, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleimanu Adamu among others.
