Bauchi lawmaker pays UTME fees for 300 indigent students

A House of Representatives member for Katagum federal constituency of Bauchi state, Honorable Umar Abdulkadir Sarki has released about N1.6 million under the Farar Tafiya Foundation for the sponsorship and registration for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to 300 students in his constituency.

The Secretary of the foundation, Mr. Salahuddin Yakubu Gwani who disclosed this in a press statement on Friday in Bauchi said that the philanthropic gesture was aimed at encouraging students from poor background to further their studies.

Gwani while maintaining that the right to quality education is a fundamental right of every Nigerian said, “it is high time every individual in the constituency embrace education for societal growth and development”.

He said that the intervention is also aimed at fulfilling Umar Sarki’s campaign promises.

The Secretary however, advised the beneficiaries to make careful selection of the  courses they would like to study and be committed to their studies when given the admission.
