Bauchi NLC denies plans of workers’ verification

Bauchi state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress has denied insinuations going round that the state government is planning verification of workers.

Recent forms distributed to MDAs in the state fueled the rumour, but the labour union said the forms from the State Accountant General are for staff nominal role, not for verification.

The State NLC Chairman, Comrade Danjuma Saleh made the remark while speaking with newsmen on the outcome of their meeting with government officials on the issue.

Comrade Danjuma Saleh said the Organized labour in the state deem it necessary to consult with the government officials in view of the series of complaints made by the workers on the forms distributed to them.

The state governor, Bala Mohammed, in a recent media chat celebrating 100 days in office hints that verification of workers was necessary, but says it will be conducted without stopping workers’ salaries.

The state governor says the verification was necessary to fish out ghost workers in various ministries and LGAs of the state.

Reports say, the state government’s salary expenditure stood at N7 billion from the initial N4 billion.
