Bauchi state launches Agricultural Policy Document

Bauchiu state government has launched an agricultural policy document covering key sub-sectors of agriculture.

Speaking at the occasion held at Bauchi State Agricultural Development Programme, BSADP, the state governor Bala Mohammed mentioned the key sectors as irrigation development, quality inputs supply, crop pest and disease control, commodity livestock and fisheries development among others.

The governor said the policy was designed to fix 10 high potential value chains by addressing major constraints and challenges bedeviling the entire agricultural sector.

Bala said that the policy was initiated to ensure the attainment of food security and nutrition by increasing the production of agricultural materials, modernization of agriculture production, processing, storage and distribution.

The governor opined that Bauchi state was blessed with conducive climate, suitable land and available human resources, and the enabling environment to attract more private sector investment and participation, which he says necessitated the government to formulate and implement the document.

Governor Bala who says the state has 4.2m hectares of cultivable land, regretted that only 40 percent of the land is currently being utilized.
