Bauchiu state government has launched an agricultural policydocument covering key sub-sectors of agriculture.
Speaking at the occasion held at Bauchi State Agricultural DevelopmentProgramme, BSADP, the state governor Bala Mohammed mentioned the key sectors asirrigation development, quality inputs supply, crop pest and disease control,commodity livestock and fisheries development among others.
The governor said the policy was designed to fix 10 highpotential value chains by addressing major constraints and challengesbedeviling the entire agricultural sector.
Bala said that the policy was initiated to ensure theattainment of food security and nutrition by increasing the production of agriculturalmaterials, modernization of agriculture production, processing, storage anddistribution.
The governor opined that Bauchi state was blessed with conduciveclimate, suitable land and available human resources, and the enablingenvironment to attract more private sector investment and participation, whichhe says necessitated the government to formulate and implement the document.
Governor Bala who says the state has 4.2m hectares ofcultivable land, regretted that only 40 percent of the land is currently beingutilized.
