Bauchi SUBEB spends N18.5 billion in 13 years

WikkiTimes’ investigation reveals that data from the Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC has shown that a total of N9,282,416,793.56 (nine Billion two hundred and eighty two million four hundred and sixteen thousand seven hundred and ninety three Naira fifty six Kobo) has been released to the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education  Board from 2005 to date as matching grants.

The matching grant is an intervention by the federal government for the development of the basic education sub-sector across the 36 states of the federation and the federal capitals territory, where equal amount is allocated to all the states annually.

As part of conditions for accessing the matching grants, states also have to give the same amount allocated by the federal government, and submit a work plan on how the money will be spent in the basic education sub-sector.

For Bauchi state, this means that a total of N18,564,833,587.12 (eighteen billion five hundred and sixty-four million eight hundred and thirty-three thousand five hundred and eighty-seven Naira fifty Kobo) has been spent in the basic education sub-sector in the last 13 years.

An analysis of the figure shows that UBEC released N2,501,170,808.00 (two billion, five hundred and one million one hundred and seventy thousand eight hundred and eight Naira) from 2008-2008, N1,153,903,587.26 (One billion one hundred and fifty three million nine hundred and three thousand five hundred and eighty seven Naira tweny six Kobo) for 2009-2010 and N1,725,464,019.92 (one billion seven hundred and twenty five million four hundred and sixty four thousand nineteen Naira ninety two Kobo) for 2011-2012.

Others are N1,983,094,594.60 (one billion nine hundred and eighty three million ninety four thousand five hundred and ninety four Naira sixty Kobo) for 2013-2014 and N1,918,783,783.78 (one billion nine hundred and eighteen million seven hundred and eighty three thousand seven hundred and eighty three Naira seventy eight Kobo) for 2015-2016 respectively.

Bauchi state government could not however accessed the matching grants for 2017 to the tune of N1,286,343,183.55 (one billion two hundred and eighty six million three hundred and forty three thousand one hundred and eighty three Naira fifty five Kobo) and N982,555,230.13 ( nine hundred and eighty two million five hundred and fifty five thousand two hundred and thirty Naira thirteen Kobo) for 2018.
