Bauchians: The embodiment of Nigeria’s modern politics

Bauchi is a state in north eastern Nigeria where its people (graphically) started showing Nigerians their competence in modern politics back in 2007.

In the build up to the 2007 elections, Isah Yuguda aspired to be the Bauchi Gubernatorial candidate under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), but his plans went awry solely  because then Bauchi governor, Ahmadu Mu’azu wanted to install his then Secretary to the Government, Nadada Umar as his successor.

Few months to the governorship election, Isah Yuguda defected to All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) and the party instantly made him its flag bearer.

Governor Mu’azu’s arrogance induced Bauchians to massively elect Isa Yuguda against his anointed candidate Nadada Umar.

The people also rejected Governor Mu’azu’s ambition to be the Senator representing Bauchi South, instead; they voted Bala Mohammad Kauran Bauchi under the same ANPP. The foregoing happened despite Mu’azu’s power of incumbency—which is enough to tell the whole world how steadfast Bauchians could be.

Moreover, in 2015 during the dying days of Isah Yuguda’s administration, he (Yuguda) also wanted to impose a successor, Auwal Jatau as Governor of the State—forgetting that the good people of Bauchi still hold grudges with him as a result of his defection to PDP after his 1st year in office—which the people saw as a betrayal of ANPP’s trust.

When Bauchians became ever ready to get rid of of Isah Yuguda, they eluded his candidate and massively voted for M.A Abubakar of the APC, in addition to ensuring that Yuguda’s ambition to retire at the upper legislative chamber was also downsized.

M.A Abubakar became the Governor of Bauchi state effortlessly in 2015. MA Abubakar’s sheered arrogance—characterised by his bull in a china shop’s attitude saw to the death of educational sector of the state. The health care under him was also a disaster, water supply remains the worst ever, and non-payment of salaries and gratuity became his slogan.

In 2019, it was time for judgement—and the people of the state are master judges and booters. It was time for history to repeat itself, it was time for the Sa’adu Zungur’s talakawas to reject and eject the monster out of the Government house.

And so they did, reluctantly and happily—defying all the shenanigans who wanted to return him at all cost.

The people of Bauchi notoriously brought in Bala Abdulkadir Mohammad (Kauran Bauchi) as the Governor elect of Bauchi state, reiterating to the whole world what they stand for and their capacities to oust and relegate indolence at all costs.

Bauchians have defined themselves as the embodiment of Nigeria’s modern democracy. My hope and prayers are that Kauran Bauchi should learn a lesson from his Predecessors’ fates—a stitch in time, they say saves nine.
