The Borno Independent Electoral Commission (BOSIEC) has presented the Certificates of Return to those who emerged winners of Saturday’s local government election in the state.
Presenting the certificates to the 27 elected council chairmen in Maiduguri on Monday, the commission’s Chairman, Alhaji Lawan Maina, urged them to extend hands of fellowship to losers.
Maina said such a gesture would promote peace, tranquility and progress in their respective local government areas.
“Furthermore, I wish to call on elected chairmen to reciprocate the confidence reposed on them by the electorate by embarking on developmental projects that have direct bearing on the lives of the people.
“It is my prayer that all of you will perform the functions of your various offices in accordance with the law,” Maina said.
He commended the State Government for its commitment to democracy at the grassroots level by supporting the conduct of the election despite security challenges facing the state.
He also lauded security agencies, traditional rulers and other stakeholders for their role in the successful conduct of the election.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) won all the 27 council chairmanship and 312 councillorship positions.
