British investors partner Bauchi govt on abandoned Ganjuwa Solar Energy

Investors from Britain are to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Bauchi state government to revive an earlier agreement signed with the state on the construction of 100MW of solar energy in Ganjuwa local government of the state.

The abandoned Ganjuwa project involves the construction of 100MW solar power plant on a 2000 hectares of land which include the construction of a substation, the installation of solar panels, transformers and laying of transmission lines.

The project which was to gulp $220 million dollars under the initial agreement was to be co-executed between Nigeria Solar Capital Partners with Globeleq Advisors Ltd and the ARM-Harith Infrastructure Funds.

Governor Bala Mohammed who expressed the readiness of his administration to renew useful commitment with development partners says the essence was to improve the quality of life of the people of Bauchi State.

The British investors from the UK who interacted with the Governor indicated interest to renew the earlier agreement signed with the previous administration.

Under the new agreement, the investors were expected to among other things; review the agreement to meet with the challenging demands of the people, market the energy to the consumers and the State Government to get an appreciable percentage of the total collection and pay compensation while the Bauchi State Government is expected to provide the needed supervisory role.

The governor said under the new agreement, critical sectors of the economy, like schools, hospitals, markets and water facilities will be provided with solar energy as part of the investors corporate social responsibility.

Governor Bala also pledged to equip the computer and skill acquisition center built by the NNPC in Misau LGA of the state.

He said efforts to enhance sustainability of the centre will be put in place to ensure the objective upon which it was constructed is realized.
