In what appears as a controversial reversal, Bauchi state governor Bala Mohammed says workers without Bank Verification Number are 19, 000 as against the 41,000, as earlier announced.
Bala said the committee constituted to investigate the non
possession of the Bank Verification Number had discovered that there was anerror on the figures earlier dished out to the public.The Governor also insisted that the verification exercise wasnot a witch hunt as many people are alleging.
Bala while addressing government house correspondents on theexercise said it was necessary for the government to conduct such exercises inorder to sanitize the State Civil Service.
He expressed gratitude to the people of the state forunderstanding the intention of his administration on the verification exercise.
Governor Bala Mohammed assured citizens of the state ofproviding good governance and pledged to give level playing ground withoutmolestation to any stakeholder in the state.
