Court Fines Kano Govt N30bn for Illegal Demolition

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has ordered the Kano State Government to pay N30 billion naira to property owners for illegally demolition of plazas in the State.

Property owners in Eid Ground where plazas had been demolished by the state government had approached the federal high court to force the state government to pay for compensation.

WikkiTimes recalls that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had demolished a number of buildings mostly at night accusing the immediate past administration of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of illegally encroaching public property.

Delivering the judgement on Friday, Justice Simon Amobeda averred that the demolition was illegal barbaric and unconstitutional.

The Court restrained the Kano State government from trespassing and reallocation of the land of anyone.

WikkiTimes reports that some property owners had earlier approached courts in Kano to restrain the state government from carrying out the demolition of other structures already marked by the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Agency (KANUPDA).
