Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, last night, supervised demolition of “illegal” buildings allocated to “family, friends and associates” of his predecessor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, at Race Course area in Kano metropolis.
The land where the buildings were erected was said to be allocated by the erstwhile governor for commercial purposes.
But last night, a number of commercial plazas constructed at area were bulldozed.
The governor also took to his Twitter handle, saying the demolition was in pursuit of restoring “sanity to Kano State Urban Development Masterplan.”
Governor Yusuf, fondly called Abba Gida-Gida was accompanied by Kano State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Useni Gumel, some top government officials and other security agents.
After he was declared winner of t the March 18 governorship election, Yusuf advised residents to stop developing government lands allocated by Ganduje.
In his inaugural speech, vowed to reclaim all the public lands in educational, cultural and religious sites.
He accused his predecessor of enchroaching on lands that belong to schools, mosques and the historic Kano walls.
The governor further alleged that his predecessor allocated the land to his family, friends and associates.
When contacted, Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority refused to comment on the matter.
Also, the developers at the site refused to grant interview.
