COVID-19: ATBU distributes hand sanitizers to inmates

The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi as part of efforts to fight the spread of coronavirus has distributed hand sanitizers to inmates in Bauchi.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Muhammad Abdulaziz said the distribution of the hand sanitizers is part of the university’s community service.

“ATBU is not just into research and education, but we also engage in community service, so as part of our community service, we want to remember our inmates by distributing these sanitizers that are produced by the university”, Abdulaziz has said.

The VC who expressed concerned over the rapid spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria said ATBU will continue to be innovative in support the government to address the pandemic.

“That is why we also said as part of our community service, we will reach out to prisoners because they are one of the most vulnerable groups, so the product are not for sale, they are meant to be distributed free of charge”, he ssaid.

The VC called on government and other corporate bodies to fund novel researches that will help in taming the spread of the coronavirus.

“If government and other private outfits could channel resources into these kinds of researches, I’m assuring you that wonderful ideas will begin to emerge that will solve our problems in many sectors”, he argued.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Comptroller, Bauchi correctional service, Deputy Comptroller Suleiman Inuwa thanked the management of the University for the Gesture, saying it will go a long way in helping the inmates maintain personal hygiene.

“ATBU is one of the few institutions that have remember inmates during this trying moment, I would want to thanked the Vice Chancellor for the gesture and assure you that we will make good use of the items for what they are meant for.”

Suleiman urged the university to intensify on pragmatic research that will help Bauchi state and Nigeria in addressing the pandemic.
