COVID-19: Bauchi Govt insists it has only 4 cases, not 8

Bauchi state government says contrary to report posted on the website of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control that there are eight cases of coronavirus in the state,it has only four confirmed cases.

WikkiTimes recalls that the NCDC had posted on its’ twitter handle that there were additional 2 cases of coronavirus from Bauchi, making a total of eight in the state.

The state deputy governor, Senator Baba Tela who is the head of the special tasks force on COVID-19 in the State said at a press conference that the NCDC had made a mistake and recounted those who had earlier tested positive for the virus as new cases.

“What happened was that the NCDC made a mistake by recounting those that had already tested positive and where under treatment as new cases.

“Even though we equally share part of the blame because when we complained to them about the error, they told us that we would have labeled the samples properly to suggest that they were meant for re-examination”, Baba Tela said.

“So want to assure the people of Bauchi State that we don’t have additional cases apart from the 4 that are under treatment”, he insisted.

The deputy governor said the COVID-19 task force in the state had already written a letter to the NCDC calling on their attention to correct the mistake.

Baba Tela said “I want to clarify that both the State Government and the NCDC had their own share of the mistakes and we have had some conversation with them and I want to assure you that the mistake will be corrected”, he said.

“We understand that the NCDC had a lot on their head, they are saturated with a lot of work, but we are still appealing to them to correct the errors on their website”.

Baba Tela also said the special taskforce is still mobilizing more resources to enable them confront the pandemic, saying “I want to use this opportunity to also tell you that private individuals and organizations are still donating money and other resources to embolden our work”.
