COVID-19: Expert urges youths to diversify to mitigate job losses

A Business Consultant, Mr Nerus  Ekezie, on Tuesday urged  more youths to go into small businesses to mitigate the job losses caused by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Ekezie, who is a former Director of the  National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday.

He said that being a small business owner was one of the solutions to tackling the poverty caused by job losses in these times.

“Unfortunately, the health pandemic has led to many businesses winding down, with many members of staff  being asked to go home.

“ The situation brought about business uncertainty for big corporations, of which no one can predict  when things will normalise,” the consultant told NAN.

He said that budding entrepreneurs must acquire the right skill set that would enable their businesses to grow in challenging times.

“New business owners are expected to undergo  few months of apprenticeship so as to know how to keep their books.

“This is necessary, as sustaining this practice will enable their business to grow in no distant time,” Ekezie said.

He said that entrepreneurs must also  adopt the entity business concept  in order for their businesses to cope with any challenging times. (NAN)
