The Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), on Friday, deployed 250 personnel to serve in the state’s Humanitarian Task Force on coronavirus.
The Acting State Commandant of the corps, Deputy Commandant, Alexander Barunde, made the announcement at the deployment ceremony held at the command’s headquarters in Bauchi.
Barunde explained that the exercise was in compliance with the directive of the Commandant-General of the corps, Abdullahi Mohammed-Gana, on COVID-19 pandemic.
He said the deployment was in collaboration with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for the purpose of surveillance, enforcement and response.
“The personnel are drawn from the crisis management department, operations and disaster and medical units of the command, and they will be deployed to all the 20 Local Government Areas of the state.
“The personnel are to ensure total compliance by members of the public with any directive to be issued to them by both the Federal and State Governments,” he said.
The commandant called on the people to take the fight against coronavirus seriously and comply with the advice given to them by health experts to eliminate the scourge.
“These pieces of advice include maintaining social distance and frequent hand washing with soap or disinfectant.
“Finally, I want to call on the general public to report any suspicious case to the appropriate authorities for prompt action,” he said. (NAN)
