Eid-el-Fitr: NSCDC Official Allegedly Kills Woman During Prayers

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel on Wednesday allegedly killed a woman who came to perform Eid-el-Fitr prayer in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State.

According to an eyewitness, NSCDC officers in their chase of armed suspects, recklessly opened fire and gunned down the woman, leading to the tragic death.

The incident resulted in outrage by residents, exacerbating tensions in the area and ensuing anger led to a mob setting fire to an NSCDC vehicle to vent their frustration.

Zamfara State Police spokesperson ASP Yazid Abubakar confirmed the incident adding that two NSCDC personnel implicated in the shooting are under police custody.

He said the Zamfara State Police Command has commenced an investigation on the matter to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

However, NSCDC spokesperson Ikor Oche denied the involvement of his officers in the death of the woman, maintaining that they were monitoring Eid activities when they heard gunshots and found the woman after rushing to the scene.

Oche also confirmed that their operational vehicle was set ablaze by a mob. He added that the NSCDC state command initiated its investigation into the incident.
