Fuel subsidy removal: Radda Distributes Palliatives to Vulnerables in Daura

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has inaugurated the distribution of palliatives to 1,814 vulnerable people in Katsina North Senatorial District to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal.

The governor, who kick-started the distribution on Tuesday in Daura, said he decided to be part of the exercise to ensure equity and justice.

He said,” Since the items are meant for them, they must be distributed to the most vulnerable like widows, orphans, aged and physically-challenged persons, among others, who could hardly afford two meals per day.”

Radda recalled that a similar programme was conducted in Funtua for the Katsina South Senatorial District beneficiaries in September.

“I am determined to reach out to the most vulnerable by all means to bring succour to them,” he stressed.

He, therefore, urged the beneficiaries to utilise the items for the betterment of their families.

One of the beneficiaries, Malam Ibrahim Audu, commended Radda’s kind gesture, explaining that it would assist in improving the living conditions of the beneficiaries.

He urged the governor to replicate similar programmes in all the local government areas to enhance their living conditions.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that each beneficiary received N10,000 and one bag of 50kg of rice.

It could be recalled that since the removal of the fuel subsidy, Nigerians have continued to experience a new dimension of hardship, rising inflation with a drop in employment rate.

Beyond Katsina, other states have embraced the need to provide various forms of relief to the locals. Still, the primary concern has been a lack of transparency on the distribution mechanism.
