Bauchi LG Vaccinates Teenage Girls Against Cancer-Inducing Papilloma Virus

The Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State Tuesday flagged off a free vaccination campaign against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a viral disease responsible for cervical cancer.

The vaccination exercise was targeted at teenage girls in the council area.

WikkiTimes gathered the vaccine would be administered to the girls at schools, Primary Health Care Centers and communities within six days.

The Chairperson of Bauchi local government, Hajiya Zainab Baban Takko, said the vaccination campaign, supported by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), Breakthrough Action Nigeria and other donor partners would help eradicate or reduce to the barest minimal the chances of the girls being victims of the HPV.

Zainab commended the development partners, calling on the traditional and religious leaders in the area to enlighten their followers on the need to make themselves available to get vaccinated.

On his part, the Director of Health of the Local Government, Suleman Abdu Kirfi, said the exercise would last six days, commencing from Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

He identified selected schools, communities and PHCs across Bauchi LG as centres where the vaccinations would take place.
