Herders/Farmers Crisis in Benue Politicised – Prof Uza

Prof Daniel Uza, the former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, has lamented the politicization of the herders and farmers crisis in Benue State.

During the investiture ceremony of Dr Andrew Amine as the 8th State Chairman of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) in Makurdi on Saturday, Uza said the politicization of the issue has deterred many potential solution providers from speaking up, fearing repercussions of being perceived as taking sides.

He emphasized the crucial role of veterinary doctors in resolving the crisis, asserting that they hold valuable insights that can contribute to effective solutions. However, he noted that their expertise would only be offered upon the request of authorities seeking professional advice.

Uza emphasized the importance of collaboration among veterinary doctors and relevant stakeholders to safeguard the health of both humans and animals.

Meanwhile, Dr. Joshua Abuku, a former chairman of NVMA in Benue, expressed disappointment over the silence of veterinary doctors regarding the lingering crisis between herders and farmers in the state.
