Hoodlums Ransack Jigawa Water Treatment Plant, Stole N20 Million Items

Suspected armed vandals have attacked Jigawa State water treatment plant and stole items estimated to be worth over N20,000,000.

Reports indicate that the delinquents held the security personnel on duty at the time of the attack hostage for hours before executing their mission. They also beat up other staff including the Zonal Manager of Jigawa State Water Board, Yunusa Shu’aibu.

Narrating details of the incident, the Zonal Manager Yunusa Shu’iabu said the hoodlums struck at midnight.

He said that attackers tied and hit him and other staff with sticks, adding that one staff escaped.

Two Killed in Jigawa Robbery Attack

Yunusa said the hoodlums cut off cables and went away with items worth over N20,000,000.

The stolen items include a high lift cable, DB cable, two high lift rotors, three Kickstarter, four solar batteries, computers, stock cables, two batteries, a pump, seven impellers, overload spear parts, an iron slab and five mobile phones.

Garba Ibrahim, Commissioner for Water Resources said the government will take stringent measures against saboteurs scuttling efforts to provide clean water to citizens of the state.

WikkiTimes gathered that the Birninkudu water treatment plant, with a capacity of 400 cubic litres per hour, was constructed in 1972. It provides water to residents of Birninkudu and Dutse, Jigawa State capital.
