INEC Distributes Sensitive Election Materials in Bauchi

With armed-to-the-teeth security personnel, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) disbursed sensitive materials for presidential and parliamentary elections to electoral officers of the 20 local government areas in Bauchi State.

WikkiTimes reports that distribution exercise was done amid heavy security presence including personnel of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Nigeria Police Force among others.

Resident Electoral Officer in charge of Bauchi, Mohammed Bulama Nura disclosed this while briefing journalists at the office of the commission in Bauchi.

“As you can see from the background, we evacuated our sensitive materials from the Central Bank to the state office for distribution to the 20 local government areas headed by our electoral officers in these local government areas.

“The process is on going. Each local government is going to have its own share of the materials. As you can see, the buses are around and the security personnel to escort them are all on ground.

“When we went to the Central Bank to evacuate the materials, two commissioners of police were there, the DSS, political parties and all other security agencies in the state were on ground.

“Today is Thursday and the materials are being taken to the local government areas and Tomorrow is Friday, meaning the materials can reached appropriate polling units on time for election to commence in earnest on Saturday,” the Resident Electoral Commissioner said.

Nura said election will not hold in six polling units in Bauchi State because there were no voters registered to vote at the centers.

He said the relative peaceful atmosphere prevalent in Bauchi is a booster to conduct smooth, free and fair credible elections.
