INSIDER: ‘There’s No Way This Year’s JAMB Results Could Be Manipulated’

Following the public criticism that trailed the alleged falsification of a UTME result by an Anambra-born, Ejikeme Mmesoma, WikkiTimes spoke with an insider in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) who believes this year’s result cannot be forged.

JAMB said the 19-year-old candidate forged her result to “win N3 million scholarship.”

However, the insider told WikkiTimes that JAMB no longer give temporary results but an instant original result.

“There is nothing like temporary result again. These days, you just go online and print the original result,” he said. “Manipulation of result? Which year are we talking about? Well, I don’t think that can happen there is no way anyone could be able to manipulate this year’s result. It’s not so easy even though there are so many people I know who can do such manipulations perfectly but everyone is afraid of the result that will follow.”

He said there are internal techniques that could easily detect if result was manipulated. The insider, however, was not sure if Mmesoma is guilty of the allegations levelled against her.

CHECKS BY WIKKITIMES

To ascertain the originality of the result, WikkiTimes compared the result slip presented by the embattled candidate with other result slips generated by other candidates who sat for the exam this year.

The 2023 results differ from those issued in the previous years i[in terms of design and other features].

The 2023 results, according to our checks, have candidates’ registration numbers as background.

They also have JAMB’s logo embedded in the background. They also show candidates’ choice of institutions.

While the candidate’s result is in landscape format, this year’s results are in portrait (A4) format, with their QR codes centralized at the bottom. The QR code on Mmesoma’s result slip was aligned to the right.

However, Mmesoma insists her result was not manipulated.

JAMB’S VERDICT

Dr Fabian Benjamin, spokesman for JAMB said the body is convinced that Mmesoma, manipulated her result.

“This particular candidate, there was news all over that she was honoured with N3 million and the Anambra State government was also trying to receive and honour her also.

“We had announced the highest scorer for the year 2023 which incidentally happens to come from Anambra state and when we got the information that somebody is laying claim of 362, we went into our system and we discovered that there was nobody with a score of 362.

“The commissioner of education from Anambra actually called and I asked her to send the result to me. For every result that is printed from our system, it comes out with QR code. The QR code is the security device of that result.

“The first thing I did was scan the QR code. So when I scanned the QR code on her result, I discovered that the QR code belongs to a candidate who sat the examination in 2021 and that candidate scored 138, and I became curious.

“So, I went into the system with the registration number because she put the scores she obtained. I checked in the system and discovered that she scored 249 and not 362,” he had said.

The JAMB’s spokesman also noted that the candidate might have used graphic design to manipulate the scores.

WikkiTimes could not subject the result to further checks using a QR scanner.
