Intelligence Agencies Thwart Attempts to Incite Masses Against Northern Senators

Senior officials from various intelligence agencies have exposed a plot aimed at sowing discord between Senators from Northern Nigeria in the 10th National Assembly and the general public.

The officials disclosed that the plan not only intended to alienate Northern Senators from the citizens but also aimed to create divisions within the security forces.

The disclosure comes in response to media allegations suggesting that a prominent Northern Senator, who also chairs a significant committee in the red chamber, is under surveillance by security agencies for purportedly spearheading terrorism and banditry in the region.

The report further implicated the Senator as a key supporter and financier of such criminal activities in the North.

However, a senior intelligence officer dismissed these claims, labelling the report as a fabricated narrative.

Speaking on condition of anonymity to PRNigeria, the officer stated, “Our discreet has unmasked those instigating the baseless story in the media. Presently, our security service is not prosecuting or investigating any Senator for sponsoring banditry or terrorism”

Furthermore, another senior military official said that upon analyzing the media report implicating the Senator, they identified the individual responsible for orchestrating the defamatory campaign against Northern legislators.

“However, I wish to inform you that we are reaching out to security agencies to ensure they find out those behind the sponsored negative campaign.

“During our investigation, we gathered that a retired security officer who is still in the service, having been retained, is the chief mastermind. The ex-security officer is from a state in the middle belt.

“But by the time we track him, he will be made to reveal the Senator he is accusing. Because you cannot pitch some group of people against Nigerians,” he said.

The investigation traced the source of the smear campaign to a retired yet still active security officer from a Middle Belt state.
