Just in: Kano Police Defy Yusuf’s Order, Says it will Respect Court Order

The Police in Kano State has said that they will only respect Court Order stopping the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sunusi II as the Emir of Kano and that status quo must be maintained in the affairs of Kano Chieftaincy.

Muhammed Gumel, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command who addressed the media Saturday, said the police as an institution has not received any order from the State Governor for the arrest and deposition of Aminu Ado Bayaro, as dethroned Emir of Kano.

Gumel said they will only respect the earlier order issued by a Federal High Court and that they are not under any pressure to perform any emergency, adding that the purported order for the arrest of Aminu Ado Bayaro has not been issued to them as he only saw it on social media.

“As you read the order on social media, I also read it. To the best of my knowledge, that order has never been issued to me given to me in my official capacity. We are to receive such an order before taking the next line of action. By and large the order for an action has not been taken. There is no time being for such an order to be in decision and the police are not under any pressure to perform an emergency to say that such order must be implemented within a timeframe”, he said.

Reiterating that status quo has to be maintained in the royal battle, Gumer said “the situation of the emirate remains as it was until on 4th of June when the Federal High Court, where the order was issued will sit and take decision and inform members of the council”.
